We've got a great crew of mechanics who've been turning wrenches for decades, and they want to teach you how to work on your own bike. For Fall 2025/Winter 2026 we are offering a full assortment of one-off classes and multiple-class courses that will cover everything from easier tasks like fixing flat tires, adjusting brakes and shifting, and setting up suspension, all the way to completely overhauling your bike or building a wheel. You decide how deep you want to dive, and we will help you on your way. Get your wrenches ready!

Join us for an evening of hands-on, basic bike maintenance education. 

Do you want to know how to change your flat tire? Or wondered why your bike is making that weird noise? What is tubeless anyways? Join us, the Papa Wheelies Service Crew, for a night of Bike Maintenance Basics! We will go over how to change a flat tire (including some tips and tricks for those pesky tire/rim combinations), explain the differences between tubed and tubeless tires, and go over some basic maintenance tips, including how to tell if your bike is in need of some love due to worn out components! There will also be an open forum for questions regarding your own bikes.


Introductory Course (2 Days)

Thursdays, November 13 & 20, 5:00-7:00pm - $120/person

The introductory course is intended for people with little to no experience maintaining or repairing their bicycle. The introductory course will cover the following topics.

  • Function and terminology of all parts of the bike
  • Flat repair (tubed and tubeless), what to carry with you while riding to repair a flat
  • How to identify if there is a problem with your bike/components (Safety Check)
  • Brake systems, discussing different kinds, how they work, and pros and cons of the different systems
  • Derailleur adjustment basics
  • Maintenance at home, what basic tools and consumables are necessary

Intermediate Course (3 Days)

Thursdays, December 4, 11 & 18, 5:00-7:00pm - $200/person

The Intermediate course is intended for people who have a good knowledge base of bike terminology and can perform basic repairs (or have completed the introductory course pre-req). This intermediate course will cover the following topics.

  • In-depth drivetrain repair portion, including derailleur adjustment refresh, identification of worn parts, replacing chainrings, cassettes, derailleurs, chains, cables, and jockey wheels. Discuss compatibility of drivetrain components

  • In-depth brake system portion, including identification of worn brake pads, and how to properly install new ones (disc brake, cantilever, and v-brake). This portion will also cover when and how to perform a brake bleed).

  • Wheel truing and tension portion, including identification of an out of true wheel, testing spoke tension, truing, and when you should not attempt to true a wheel.

  • Headset and bottom bracket basics, including headset adjustment, discussing different types of bottom brackets, and how to identify worn bearings in both.

Advanced Service Classes (Rent-a-tech)

Sundays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays by appointment - $150/hour

The advanced course is intended for people that have the ability to perform intermediate repairs, and have a solid knowledge base of bike component functionality (or have completed the Intermediate Course pre-req). This course will be offered as a 1 on 1 clinic with a seasoned bike technician. This course is for the person that is interested in learning how to perform anything from repair and replacement of components on their personal bike, to a complete tear down and rebuild (likely spanning multiple blocks). This course is offered in hour-long blocks at $150/hour (cost of parts not included).

  • Advanced Course will be scheduled at least two weeks out.
  • Classes will be available Sundays, Tuesdays, Wenesdays & Thursdays as our schedule allows
  • Courses will be custom-tailored to your interests. A few days after you sign up for a block an instructor will reach out to you for additional input so they can build out a class for you before your scheduled date.
